Why the Bathroom Remodel?
Our clients had a bathroom that wasn’t working for them. The garden bathtub was hardly ever used and just took up unnecessary space. The shower was too small and uncomfortable, and the whole area had an outdated design that was starting to yellow. Additionally, the shower area did not match the Hawaiian aesthetic that the rest of their home beautifully showcased. It was finally time to start looking into a shower remodel!

Shower Design:
We aimed to give the bathroom a Hawaiian beachy feel, making it both functional and visually appealing. We started by choosing sand-like river rock pebbles for the shower floor to bring in that beach feel. We selected light cream colors for the tiles to match the Hawaiian theme of the rest of the bathroom. For the walls, we used large format porcelain tiles to minimize grout lines, making them easier to clean.
A standout feature of the design was the glass mosaic waterfall running down the middle from the shower head. We used the same mosaic for the niche backdrop to create a cohesive look. The shower was equipped with a rainfall shower head and an additional handheld sprayer, a perfect addition to the modern beach vibe!
Shower Remodel Remodel Process
Preparation Before Demolition and Dust:
One of our top priorities is cleanliness, so we started by covering the driveway to prevent any stains or messes. We also covered the floors from the outside work area into the inside work area to keep the home clean. Existing bathroom features like the vanity and mirror were covered, and we closed off the demolition area to prevent dust exposure to the rest of the house. Additionally, used strong vacuums to prevent dust from forming and causing huge clouds of dust!
Demolition/Removal:
We carefully removed the old bathroom features like the bathtub and old pre-made shower, without damaging anything that would be staying. We made sure to demolish safely to avoid damage to existing plumbing and electrical components. All debris was hauled away and disposed of legally.
Remodel/Rebuild Start:
With a clean slate to work with, it was time to begin the new remodel! We installed a new Delta Universal shower valve at the shower entrance with a diverter valve located in the main shower area for easy control. We added a handheld sprayer wand and raised the shower head to give a true rain-feel experience. All plumbing was leak-tested and successfully passed.
Next, we framed the new niche and corrected out-of-plumb walls to avoid problems and ensure a flat tile installation. We gave the shower floor the appropriate slope, installed moisture-resistant wallboard, and waterproofed the shower floors and walls to achieve a 100% water-tight seal. The shower pan was filled and leak-tested successfully!
The tile installation process was meticulous. We made sure to have clean, non-chipped cuts, accurate angles, properly mitered Schluter metal trim, and even tiles. Finally, we installed the plumbing fixtures and the glass splash panel, resulting in a final look that mesmerized both us and our client!
Tests and Quality Inspections:
Throughout the remodeling process, we conducted quality tests and inspections. We paid close attention to every detail to ensure everything was up to our high standards of workmanship and quality. In the end, we completed a final walkthrough inspection to make sure the remodel was immaculate!
